Research. The best way to view unbiased opinions are by seeking out fellow traveler reviews and photos, on websites such as TripAdvisor. TripAdvisor is great because you can also search reviews for key words. Some things that are important to look for in reviews are quality of food, room cleanliness, and location.
What kind of atmosphere do you want? All inclusive resorts can vary from family-friendly, to adults only, to couples only, so it’s important to know what your looking for. Maybe you need daycare services for the children, or maybe your planning a romantic trip away for your anniversary and want to plan a private candlelit dinner on the beach, all of this should be kept in mind when booking an all inclusive vacation.
Location is key. Do you want to lounge on the beach and relax for a week straight, or maybe you want to hit the clubs and party, or perhaps a mix of both? Location will determine what activities are available to you at your destination.
Boutique vs. Mega Resort. Boutique hotels are smaller and more intimate, while mega resorts are large chains. There are unique pros and cons to both. Boutique resorts provide a more personal experience where you develop connections with everyone working at the hotel, and there is usually more focus on little details such as quality of food. Mega Resorts often have more activities to offer, along with multiple restaurants and bars, although at times the food can be lacking.
Know your purpose. Who are you traveling with? Are you traveling as a couple, a family or with a group? Are you celebrating an event; perhaps a wedding, birthday, bachelor or bachelorette party, anniversary, or graduation? This will determine what extra activities, amenities, or packages need to be included.
